At its AGM on May 28, 2016, Skate Canada’s membership voted in favour of an amendment to their bylaws to create a new unified Ontario Section. This structure allows for figure skating in Ontario to be governed by one section and become the provincial sport organization recognized by the provincial funding organizations.
While the bylaw amendment was approved at the May 28, 2016 AGM, to allow for a smooth transition the new Ontario Section will not be made effective until April 1, 2017. For the period following the 2016 AGM up until formation of the new Ontario Section on April 1, 2017, a Transition Committee will be appointed to support the transition work required to operationally form the new Ontario Section. The Transition Committee will report to the Board of Directors of the current PSO – Skate Ontario, and through the PSO indirectly to Skate Canada.
We are seeking experienced volunteer leaders (10 to 12) with high integrity, good business judgment and excellent reputation to fill open seats on the Transition Committee that will develop and establish processes, policies, structures, and routines necessary for a unified Ontario Section to operate as of April 1, 2017. The specific areas that will require attention and decisions include, but are not limited to:
• Regional Structure
• Programs, Competitions and Events
• Organization Structure and Workforce Plans
• Financial Matters
If you are interested in serving and being considered for the Transition Committee, please review in detail the Transition Committee Member Requirements and fill out and submit the Expression of Interest Form by June 10, 2016 5:00 p.m. EDT.
• Skate Canada Ontario Section Expression of Interest Form (MS-Word format)
• Skate Canada Ontario Section Expression of Interest Form (Fillable PDF format)
• Skate Canada Ontario Section Expression of Interest Form (Standard PDF format)
Skating organizations may wish to nominate individuals to serve on the Transition Committee. The nominee should still complete the Expression of Interest Form and add an accompanying letter from the nomination group.
Thank you for your interest in the future of Ontario skating.
