CanSkate Coach – Thunder Bay Skating Academy

This position reports directly to the Director of Skating Programs and is responsible for
providing group instruction on the CanSkate sessions, ensuring that each skater
receives qualified instruction. The coach will focus their efforts to contribute to the
delivery of a CanSkate program which meets and surpasses the program delivery
standards set by Skate Canada.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
● Ensure program delivery meets and exceeds Skate Canada standards
● Ensure skater safety at all times (ice conditions, activities, etc.)
● Participate actively in all group lessons, leading when required, providing support
through technique correction of skaters when not leading.
● Encourage skaters in participation and training in a positive way
● Help skaters remain focused on tasks through positive motivation
● Keep records of lessons delivered and attendance (skater & coach)
● Keep up to date and be aware of all Skate Canada technical communications
● Attend and participate in all coaching technique meetings
● Assist with on-ice set-up to facilitate learning as needed
● Currently registered Skate Canada Professional Coach

An hourly wage based on experience and certification is paid for all on-ice and off-ice
program delivery hours.

Currently our club operates from January to March delivering CanSkate and
CanPowerskate programs at various arenas in Thunder Bay. We run approx. 15 hours
of ice per week during the winter session.

The programs we offer include, but are not limited to:
● CanSkate
● CanPower Skate

We are planning an expansion of our operations to include 1-2 more communities or
arenas to deliver CanSkate programs. We are also planning on extending our season,
starting in October 2018, running through to December for 10 weeks.

Applicants for the position must have a minimum of the following qualifications:
● NCCP CanSkate Trained Status or higher
● Ability to work in a team coaching environment
● Experience producing Ice Shows
● Personal skating experience at Ice Shows, Competitions, Test Days, Seminars
● Up to date knowledge of Skate Canada program changes and pilot projects
● Skilled at using the Skate Canada website and tools

Hilltop Skating Club – Looking for Coaches

The Hilltop Skating Club located in Newmarket, Ontario is recruiting dynamic and qualified Skating Coaches for our 2017/2018 fall/winter programs. Reporting to the Skating Program Coordinator, the Skating Coaches will be responsible for coaching CanSkate and StarSkate programs.  CanSkate classes run Monday and Wednesday 5-6pm and Saturday mornings 9-10am.  StarSkate runs Tuesday and Thursday mornings 7-8am.  Successful candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence and to the improvement of young children’s skating skills.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
UNIONVILLE SKATING CLUB

With more than 45 years in operation, the Unionville Skating Club (USC) is a growing community skating club in Ontario with an active membership of more than 800 skaters. As a member of Skate Canada, USC offers a wide variety of skating programs including Pre-School, CanSkate, STARSkate, Synchronized Skating, Power Skating and Adult skating.

USC is looking to welcome an Executive Director to the team, with an accountability for leading the organization through the 2017/2018 skating season. The position will report to a volunteer Board of Directors, with a direct reporting relationship to the Board President and indirectly to the Executive members of the Board. Starting August 1, 2017, the Executive Director will provide overall leadership to all aspects of skating club operations, with an expected end date of June 30, 2018. The contract will run for 11 months, with an opportunity to renew for the 2018/2019 skating season, based on performance and club needs.

Position Details:
Location: Crosby Memorial Arena, 210 Main Street, Unionville, ON
Date of Contract: August 1, 2017-June 30, 2018
Hours of Work: Specific hours to be determined, ~30 hours per week expected, availability in evenings may be required

Salary: $30,000 – $35,000

Reporting Relationship:

The Executive Director will report directly to the Board President and indirectly to the Executive of the Board. The Board will provide support to establish annual performance objectives in line with the key accountabilities outlined below.

The Executive Director will be expected to attend all Board meetings (typically the 2nd Tuesday of each month). The Executive Director should come to each meeting prepared to discuss:

• Staff issues and how they will be addressed;
• Club performance, including budget performance;
• Overview of any new programs or initiatives for approval; and,
• Any specific issues that require Board support.
Key Job Accountabilities:

The Executive Director will be accountable for overall club operations, ensuring that the USC achieves our strategic goals and operational plan objectives. Providing leadership to all USC staff, including part-time and coaching staff, the Executive Director will be responsible for implementing the long term vision of the club, ensuring that we continue to provide the best possible programming to meet the needs of our skating families.

Key job accountabilities will include:
• Develop and implement policies related to club operations;
• Provide management and leadership to all staff, including part-time and coaching staff;
• Develop and implement a strategy for communication, marketing and promotional materials;
• Establish, monitor, and ensure USC operates within club budgets, in conjunction with Treasurer;
• Oversee AP, AR and Payroll;
• Monitor Monthly P&L and YTD;
• Working within Skate Canada requirements, continue to drive overall improvements in all program areas;
• Develop and sustain community partnerships and governing body relationships as required
• Develop a plan related to Coaching and Club staff, including recruitment of new talent and establishing longer term succession plans for the club coaching staff;
• Develop and maintain a volunteer base to ensure seamless execution of all USC events;
• Develop and implement a strategy for funding through grant applications, fundraising and other activities;
• Provide support and information to the USC Board of Directors;
• Coordinate Business Management of USC, including development of performance indicators; and
• Other duties as required.

Skills and Experiences:
• Post-secondary education in a related discipline (i.e. business administration, not-for-profit management, recreational program management)
• Knowledge and/or experience in the sport of figure skating is considered an asset
• More than 5 years of working experience in business or sports administration, including management of budgets and building and implementing strategic business plans
• Strong leadership skills, with previous experience managing a team
• Strong leadership presence, with the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders
• Strong customer service skills
• Previous experience working in a non-profit organization is preferred
• Working knowledge and experience with business software (i.e. accounting, member management systems, other Office suites)
• A passion for sport
