Port Hope Figure Skating Club – Seeking CanSkate Coach

The Port Hope Figure Skating Club is seeking a CanSkate Coach to teach programs in Learn to Skate and CanSkate.  Our program is run out of the Jack Burger Sports Complex in Port Hope, ON.

For the 2018/2019 season, we are looking to hire a CanSkate coach who is fun, outgoing, and innovative, who love to skate and love teaching children. The successful Coach should be comfortable working closely and communicating directly with skaters, parents and board members. The skating season runs from September to March and currently classes are held on Monday and Friday nights.

Roles and Responsibilities:

To coach CanSkate programs.
To work with current coaches to make programs fun and achievement oriented.
Evaluate skaters and complete report cards for each session.

Requirements:

Be a Skate Canada Certified Club Coach, or higher (CanSkate)
Provide a photocopy of your Skate Canada Professional Coaching Membership Card
Have a Police Clearance Check
Hold a First Aid Certificate

Position purpose:

The Valley East Skating Club is currently looking for a Skate Canada certified coach to join our growing club for the 2018-2019 season. We currently offer a CanSkate and StarSkate program, and are looking into adding a PowerSkate and Adult Skate program.

We are a club with young but growing skaters and we are looking for a coach who is ready to provide high-quality programming to our skaters, both on ice and off ice, in order to help them continue their improvement and attain higher skating levels.  As a coach for the Valley East Skating club, you will also play a key role in helping our club recruit new skaters in order to ensure the sustainability of our club.

Job Summary and Responsibilities:

The coach is responsible for:

  • Providing input for programing.
  • Assisting Head Coach in implementation of lesson plans.
  • Assigning skaters to groups based on ability, and ensure appropriate ratios.
  • Motivating and mentoring coaches to provide high quality lesson plans.
  • Assessing, evaluating and providing opportunities for all coaches to have a voice.
  • Following all Skate Canada and Skate Ontario guidelines and recommendations for athlete development.

We are looking for someone who is passionate, energetic, enthusiastic, collaborative team player to work with children of all ages and skill levels.  As a representative of the Valley East Skating Club, the successful applicant must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a high level of professionalism with skaters, parents/guardians/families, executive members, and fellow coaches.

Positions Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Hold a current Skate Canada Professional Membership (in good standing).
  • Must follow all Skate Canada and Skate Ontario guidelines and recommendations for athlete development.
  • Minimum Skate Canada CanSkate trained & Primary StarSkate trained coach or higher.
  • Willingness to participate/volunteer in club activities and events as required, including board and committee meetings.
  • All applicants must submit a copy of their NCCP coaching credentials and CEP status.
  • Must be willing to submit a current vulnerable sector police record check and a current first aid certificate.
  • Subject to a performance evaluation by members of the executive when deemed necessary.
  • PowerSkate certification is an asset.
  • Off ice training experience is an asset.
  • Minimum 1 year experience of coaching is required.
  • Language:  English (required).  Bilingual is an asset.

Time Commitment:

Our season runs from September to April with approximately 6 hours a week of ice time and off ice/dryland training time dates and times to be confirmed.

Head Coach, University of Toronto – Varsity Blues Figure Skating

The University of Toronto is seeking a candidate to fill the volunteer position of Head Coach for the Varsity Blues FigureSkating program.

Figure Skating is in the Blue & White Division of the University of Toronto intercollegiate sport model and operates from October 1st to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championships in February annually.

Reporting to the Assistant Manager of Blue & White Division, Clubs, and Tri‐Campus Sports, the Figure Skating Head Coach’s is responsible for all coaching and program management duties consistent with the operation of a successful intercollegiate sport program. OUA Figure Skating competitions include Free Skate, Ice Dance, Pairs, and Synchro events and the Head Coach should have coaching experience and/or exposure to these events. Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Student‐athlete recruitment
  • Team selection
  • Adhering to compliance protocols
  • Personnel management (Assistant coach, team manager, etc.)
  • Team and individual goal setting
  • Technical preparation
  • Practice planning and preparation
  • Competition strategy
  • Program evaluation
  • Regular contact with athletes
  • Equipment, uniform, and apparel purchase coordination with Varsity Blues administrative staff
  • Travel and accommodation coordination with Varsity Blues administrative staff
  • Fundraising, budget management, and adhering to the financial policy
  • Adhere to sport technical requirements of the OUA, i.e. technical meeting, coaches meeting, roster forms, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Appropriate NCCP certification
  • University degree, preferably in kinesiology or physical education or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years Figure Skating coaching experience, with OUA, club, provincial, or national team programs
  • Skate Canada Technical Specialist certification is considered an asset
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory criminal record check

Dundas Figure Skating Club – Searching for an NCCP Regional Level (or higher) Coach

The Dundas Figure Skating Club is looking for qualified coaches to join our growing club for the 2018-19 season. The ideal candidates should be NCCP Certified with Regional Coach/Primary StarSkate certification or higher and have a police background check, current Skate Canada Professional Membership and first aid certificate.

Cayuga Skating Club – CanSkate and StarSkate Coaches Needed

The Cayuga Skating Club is looking a Coach to join our growing club for the 2018-2019 Season.  We are currently looking for Skate Canada certified coach in both CanSkate and StarSkate.   Ice time is currently Tuesdays 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm with an interest to increase our ice time.

We have a growing club and would like to increase our ice time with some of skaters that maybe looking to move up to StarSkate and continue learning new skills.  We would also love to add CanPower to our program as well.  We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, collaborative-minded and enjoys working with skaters of all ages and skill levels. The successful applicant must be able to communicate well with skaters, parents, executive members, and fellow coaches.

Prince Edward County Skating Club – Seeking NCCP Regional Level (or higher) Coaches

The Prince Edward County Skating Club (PECSC – 1000513) is located in a rural community just south of Belleville in beautiful Prince Edward County. The Club is currently accepting resumes for Skate Canada NCCP certified coaches in both CanSkate & StarSkate for the upcoming 2018-19 season.

Position:

We require a dedicated and enthusiastic team player to join our current coaching staff. This coach must be able to communicate well with skaters, parents, executive members, and fellow coaches.

This coach will ideally be available to participate in a variety of programming during the week, starting off with Pre-CanSkate and CanSkate and assisting coaching staff with Junior Enrichment/Rising Star and STARSkate and CanPowerSkate certification would be an asset.

Position Requirements:

– Minimum Skate Canada CanSkate Certified & Primary StarSkate trained coach or higher

– Immediate need for Regional Level or higher to help with STARskate program

– Willingness to participate/volunteer in club activities and events as required, including board and committee meetings.

The Belmore Skating Club is a not-for-profit club who is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, creative individual. This coach must be certified with Skate Canada and in good standing order. As well as meet all of the requirements to coach PreCan through to StarSkate.

The Woodstock (ON) Skating Club’s Synchronized Skating Program is seeking an experienced Synchronized Skating Coach to add to our team.  Candidates must showcase strengths in energy, choreography, creativity and skill to lead these dedicated skaters through another successful season of our established `Velocity` Adult 2 and Adult 3 teams as well as working with the Beginner skaters in the future.

Burlington – Club Coach, Regional Coach, & National Coach Wanted

The Burlington Skating Centre is a thriving, well balanced skating club with a large membership.  We operate year round, offering a wide range of programming including Learn to Skate, StarSkate and Competitive skating to athletes competing both Nationally and Internationally. We offer competitive remuneration in a team oriented, professional environment operating primarily from a dedicated figure skating pad at the Appleby Ice Centre.  All coaches report to the Technical Director and must have current NCCP qualifications, first aid, CPR and be current with the new star system.

Port Carling Skating Club Seeks NCCP Certified Professional Coach

The Port Carling Skating Club is currently seeking 1 NCCP certified, professional coach, Level 1 or higher for the 2018-2019 season. Our season runs from the end of August until the end of March.

Technical Director – Unionville Skating Club

Unionville Skating Club is seeking a Part-Time Technical Director who will provide
overall program guidance, coaching leadership and management, event planning and execution, and volunteer development.

The Technical Director (TD) will report directly to the Business Director who reports to the Executive of the Board of Directors. The TD may be asked to attend Board meetings on request as required to discuss:
• New programs or initiatives for approval; and,
• Any specific issues that require Board support.

The Technical Director will be accountable for:
• The recruitment, management, and development of existing and new coaching staff
• Work alongside the Business Director for Ice booking, club budget, and scheduling
• Alignment of programming with Skate Canada standards
• Coaching and assisting at all levels of CanSkate programs
• Supervising and managing ice usage for StarSkate programming
• Liaison between Skate Canada, Skate Ontario, and USC Families

Objectives (December 1 2017 – June 30, 2018)
• Provide management and leadership to all coaching staff;
• Establish, monitor, and ensure USC ice allocation and coaching costs operate within club budgets;
• Co-lead a strategic planning committee focused on a 5 year plan
• Working within Skate Canada requirements, continue to drive overall improvements in all
program areas;
• Develop a plan related to Coaching and Club staff, including recruitment of new talent and
establishing longer term succession plans for the club coaching staff;
• Recruit and maintain a volunteer base to ensure seamless execution of all USC events;
• Other duties as required

The Pickering Skating Club – Seeking a NCCP Certified professional coach for the 2017-2018 season

The club operates out of The Pickering Recreation Centre (1867 Valley Farm Rd., Pickering, ON).

The successful candidate must be prepared to be involved in Pre-Can and CanSkate programs.  The ideal candidate will be available to coach the following times:

CanSkate Coach – Thunder Bay Skating Academy

This position reports directly to the Director of Skating Programs and is responsible for
providing group instruction on the CanSkate sessions, ensuring that each skater
receives qualified instruction. The coach will focus their efforts to contribute to the
delivery of a CanSkate program which meets and surpasses the program delivery
standards set by Skate Canada.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
● Ensure program delivery meets and exceeds Skate Canada standards
● Ensure skater safety at all times (ice conditions, activities, etc.)
● Participate actively in all group lessons, leading when required, providing support
through technique correction of skaters when not leading.
● Encourage skaters in participation and training in a positive way
● Help skaters remain focused on tasks through positive motivation
● Keep records of lessons delivered and attendance (skater & coach)
● Keep up to date and be aware of all Skate Canada technical communications
● Attend and participate in all coaching technique meetings
● Assist with on-ice set-up to facilitate learning as needed
● Currently registered Skate Canada Professional Coach

An hourly wage based on experience and certification is paid for all on-ice and off-ice
program delivery hours.

Currently our club operates from January to March delivering CanSkate and
CanPowerskate programs at various arenas in Thunder Bay. We run approx. 15 hours
of ice per week during the winter session.

The programs we offer include, but are not limited to:
● CanSkate
● CanPower Skate

We are planning an expansion of our operations to include 1-2 more communities or
arenas to deliver CanSkate programs. We are also planning on extending our season,
starting in October 2018, running through to December for 10 weeks.

● NCCP CanSkate Trained Status or higher
● Ability to work in a team coaching environment
● Experience producing Ice Shows
● Personal skating experience at Ice Shows, Competitions, Test Days, Seminars
