Sectionals Wrap Up from Lisa Alexander & Karen Butcher

A message from Lisa Alexander, Executive Director of Skate Ontario and Karen Butcher, President, Skate Ontario Board of Directors:

Thank you to everyone involved in the inaugural Skate Ontario Sectional Championships! We are very proud to have successfully concluded the very first “provincial” figure skating championships. We look forward to learning and improving each year as we give athletes the opportunity to compete against the best athletes in Ontario. We recognize that change is not easy, and we look forward to hearing your feedback as we continue to adapt best practices and to grow our organization in the months and years to come. Our goal is to deliver events consistently across the province providing the best possible experience for everyone involved.

Our focus is on athlete-centred events, giving skaters the best experience to facilitate their development. Competing on the provincial stage fosters skills needed at larger scale competitions like Challenge, Nationals and beyond. Sectionals welcomed over 350 athletes and more than 150 coaches. We are proud to have 195 athletes representing Skate Ontario at Skate Canada Challenge in December where they will compete for a spot at the Skate Canada National Championships to be held in Vancouver in January.

A big thank you to the City of Oakville and Skate Oakville for warmly welcoming everyone and for all of the hard work they put into the event. We would also like to thank the officials, event technicians and volunteers for offering their time in order for the event to run fairly and smoothly. The event would not run without these individuals, and we thank them for their continued service to skating in our province. Most importantly congratulations to the skaters, coaches and parents for an exceptional four days of skating.

We wish Team Ontario the best of luck as they travel to Montreal for Challenge at the end of the month, and look forward to seeing you at upcoming Skate Ontario events this winter and spring.

Yours in skating,

Lisa & Karen
