It gives us great pleasure to announce that Skate Ontario has completed the hiring process for two key management positions for the amalgamated organization.
Sharon Maki – Manager, Club Development
Sharon is no stranger to Skate Ontario, as she was a member of the Club Consultation team that provided seminar and one on one sessions with Ontario clubs in 2016. Sharon’s past experience as a club director, administrator and coach, Skate Canada consultant in the STAR 1-5 program, Recreation Chair and CanSkate Delivery Facilitator for Skate Manitoba, along with numerous volunteer committee positions with Skate Canada bring a knowledge and commitment to the position that will allow Ontario to be a leader in club support. Sharon is also a licenced pilot and flight instructor and worked in that field for many years in Manitoba before committing full time to developing skaters and skating in that province.
In her new role, Sharon will be the key staff contact and will lead a team of consultants and volunteers to work with clubs, skating schools, coaches and volunteers in all areas of development in group and individual programming. Sharon will assume her new position on April 24, 2017.
Kelsey Bennett – Manager, Events and Operations
Kelsey has been with Skate Ontario for the past three months in a contract role as Operations Manager where she has made significant contributions to the work of the Transition Committee. Prior to that, she spent eight years working with Freestyle Skiing with both the NSO and PSO in increasingly progressive positions culminating as the Events Director for Freestyle Ontario. She has extensive experience in event management with responsibilities for planning and managing all levels of competitions including all aspects from the bidding process, to event hosting agreements, to policy development, to venue management to budget and volunteer management. She led the creation of competitive and developmental ski series including the “Timber Tour” and the “Sapling Sessions” which remain flagship events for the organization. She also has experience with successful event-hosting grant applications. Kelsey also brings extensive experience in PSO operations management.
In her new role, Kelsey will lead our Events team consisting of staff and volunteers in providing our membership service and support with the development, delivery and growth of events across the province. Kelsey will also work closely with the Director of Finance and Operations to ensure smooth management of our internal and external operational systems and processes.
We are extremely lucky to have two such strong and experienced leaders join our new team. Please join us in welcoming Sharon and Kelsey to the Skate Ontario team.
