Ontario Skaters Win Eight Medals at 2011 BMO Junior Nationals

The 2011 BMO Junior Nationals came to a close yesterday in Victoria.  Ontario skaters took home a total of eight medals throughout the event.

Ontario skaters swept the Novice Pairs podium.  Shalena Rau & Phelan Simpson, from Western Ontario, won gold.  Mary Orr & Anthony Furiano, from Western Ontario,  won silver and Leah Hyslop & Bob Goodwin, from Western Ontario, won bronze.

Shalena & Phelan were also presented with a BMO Possibilities Award for their performances at Junior Nationals.

In Novice Dance, Mackenzie Bent & Garrett MacKeen from Eastern Ontario took the silver.

Kelly Oliveira and Jordan Hockley from Central Ontario won the silver in Junior Dance.

In Junior Men, Shaquille Davis from Central Ontario won silver and Peter O’Brien from Eastern Ontario won bronze.

In Junior Pairs, Katherine Bobak and Matthew Penasse from Western Ontario won the bronze.

The 2011 BMO Canadian Championships gets underway today with the Senior Pairs, Dance and Ladies short programs.
