Spinal Cord Injury Webinar – November 25th

Toronto, Nov. 11, 2010 – The Coaches Association of Ontario and the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre RBC First Office for Injury Prevention are pleased to jointly offer the Return to Play Series: ”Spinal Cord Injury ” on Thursday, November 25, from 12:00 –  1:00 PM (ET.)

While any sport in which you can fall, slip, or be struck by another participant puts you at risk for Spinal Cord Injury, there is a higher rate of incidence in some sports than in others. Learn the warning signs associated with Spinal Cord Injury and effective techniques used to prevent and respond to such injuries while keeping athletes safe. This 60-minute webinar will include a 30-40 minute presentation by sport and medical panel experts followed by a 20-30 minute question and answer period.

This interactive session will feature Barry Munro, Chairman, the Canadian Spinal Research Organization, Sheilagh Croxon, Chair, Coaches Association of Ontario and Tracy Anthony, RN, BScN – Acute Spinal Cord Injury Nurse, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Topics covered in Spinal Cord webinars, include:

  • Definition of Spinal Cord Injury and understanding the varying degrees of injury
  • Prevention techniques and best practices in sport
  • Effective response methods to athlete(s) who have been injured
  • Transition and retention of athlete(s) post injury
